ABSTRACT

Theophylline is a methylxanthine derivative used for cardiovascular and respiratory diseases in children and adults. It shows its effect via inhibition of phosphodiesterase. Chronic poisonings are more frequent than acute poisonings due to its narrow therapeutic range. Intoxications with methylxanthine derivatives may result in mortality due to serious cardiovascular, central nervous system, metabolic, gastrointestinal and musculo-skeletal system effects. In this case report, we present a patient with toxic dose of theophyyline ingestion who was managed succesfully.
