    ABSTRACT

Methyl alcohol is an alcohol derivative that is widely used in the industry and is easy to obtain. Methyl alcohol intoxication is a serious condition that has a high mortality risk and can cause metabolic acidosis, vision loss, and central nervous system suppression. Bicarbonate can be given in the treatment of metabolic acidosis, as well as hemodialysis to remove toxic metabolites. Ethanol or fomepizole can be used to reduce toxic effects by competitive inhibition. In this article, a 17-year-old male patient who was admitted to the pediatric emergency department with vomiting, abdominal pain and deep metabolic acidosis and learned to have produced alcoholic beverages at home was presented.

    Keywords: Methyl alcohol, intoxication, acidosis
