ABSTRACT
Digoxin is one of the most frequently used positive inotropic agents. Dig xin toxicity can easily develop due to the narrow therapeutic dose range. In this case report, we aimed to emphasize that digoxin poisoning may come out more easily in critical patients.
A 3 month-old girl with esophageal atresia and tracheoesophageal fistula developed heart failure due to ventricular septal defect, and was admitted to pediatric intensive care unit. Appropriate maintenance dose of oral digoxin treatment without a loading dose was started in addition to dopamine, dobutamine and furosemide. However, atrioventricular (AV) block was observed due to digoxin intoxication.
As a result, digoxin toxicity might occur even in therapeutic dose ranges in critically ill patients leading to AV block.
